Globally renowned Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospitals, renowned for their state-of-the-art eye care services, performed high-risk paediatric cataract surgery on an 8-month-old baby in Bangalore. The phacoemulsification surgery was performed by Dr. Sri Ganesh, the Chairman and Managing Director of Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospitals. The procedure on both eyes was successfully done within 30 minutes.

The 8-month-old female newborn patient was born with congenital cataracts in both eyes. This is a syndrome in which the lens of the eyes is foggy rather than clear after birth, causing blindness. The procedure was carried out at Nethradhama’s Centre of Excellence in Jayanagar. According to the team of specialists, the 8-month-old kid has regained complete vision and is healing well since the surgery. The baby’s mother had the same ailment, and 22 years ago, the same doctor successfully restored her vision.

Speaking on the success of the rare surgery, Dr Sri Ganesh added, ” We are delighted to provide a new lease of life to this baby, by restoring her vision. For the first time in eight months, the baby was able to see her mother which gives us immense joy and satisfaction. At Nethradhama, our emphasis always lies on patient-centricity, quality and care. Keeping in mind our surgical practice and expertise to stay at the forefront of technological advancements that enhance patient satisfaction”

Dr Sri Ganesh explained that the baby had a bilateral posterior polar congenital cataract, a serious ailment. The technique for operating on babies and IOL power was calculated by doing scans under anaesthesia during the surgery and implanting a foldable IOL. The anaesthesia team is critical in such instances, and the team led by Dr Suman Shree was able to anaesthetise the child and monitor all vital data while also maintaining intraocular pressure during the operation.

The mother of the 8-month-old baby expressed her gratitude, saying,” I am immensely thankful to Dr Sri Ganesh and his team for their unwavering support throughout this journey. We were apprehensive at first, however, the medical team’s expertise and compassionate care reassured us every step of the way. Today I am pleased that my baby can see the world. We truly feel fortunate to have received such remarkable care and hospitality”
