The ZEISS QUATERA 700 offers potentially superior intraoperative chamber stability and surge management compared to any other phacoemulsification device. Quatera 700 has better intraoperative stability and significantly shorter surge duration after an occlusion break. Quatera 700 also has the edge over any other phaco device with better incision leakage compensation.
Chamber stability: Quatera 700 showed significantly better intraoperative anterior chamber stability compared to the other devices, based on surgeon scoring.
Surge response: Quatera 700 responds faster to occlusion breaks, returning fluid more quickly and maintaining intraocular pressure (IOP) more effectively.
IOP control: Quatera 700 could maintain target IOP at higher flow rates (up to 90 cc/min) compared to the nearest competitor (up to 50 cc/min), at which point the Centurion degraded.
Incision leakage: Quatera 700 has better compensation for incision leakage, a factor that contributes to chamber stability.
Posterior capsule ruptures: Studies reported that NO posterior capsule ruptures occurred with the Quatera 700, while they were reported with the other devices in the comparison.
The femtosecond laser is a high-precision, computer-guided laser used in Femtosecond Laser–Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS). It replaces several manual steps of cataract surgery with blade-free, automated precision.
What the Laser Does (Function): FLACS automates multiple critical early steps of cataract surgery that are traditionally done manually using blades and handheld instruments. This enhances accuracy, consistency, and safety across different eye conditions.
A computer-controlled, blade-free femtosecond laser performs the following steps:
Corneal incisions: Highly precise and reproducible, improving wound architecture and safety.
Capsulotomy: Creates a perfectly centered, circular opening in the lens capsule, which helps ensure accurate positioning of the intraocular lens (IOL).
Lens fragmentation: Breaks the cataract nucleus into small pieces, reducing the ultrasound energy (CDE) required during phacoemulsification. This makes the surgery gentler on the eye.
Nethradhama is equipped with the world’s most advanced femtosecond machine LENSAR® Laser System.
| Feature | Phacoemulsification | Femtosecond Laser Technology (FLACS) |
|---|---|---|
| Technology Type | Ultrasound (mechanical energy) | Laser (light energy) |
| Role in Surgery | Removes the fragmented cataract via aspiration | Performs initial incisions, capsulotomy, and nuclear fragmentation |
| Automation | Manual execution by surgeon | Computer-guided and automated key steps |
| Usage | Used in both conventional and FLACS procedures | Used to prepare the eye for phacoemulsification |
| Energy Required | Uses ultrasound energy | Reduces required ultrasound energy during phacoemulsification |
| Precision | Surgeon-dependent for manual steps | Higher precision and reproducibility in specific steps (incisions, capsulotomy) |

The Cataract surgery procedure usually takes around 10-15 minutes per eye and is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning the patient can go home the same day. However, it’s important to plan for a few hours of observation and recovery time after the procedure.
This depends on the type of Cataract surgery and the type of lens used. The latest Femto-laser assisted cataract surgery minimizes the dependence on spectacles after cataract surgery.
