Treatment modalities with AMARIS


The AMARIS has very advance preoperative screening and diagnostic equipment to ensure precise measurement of your refraction and aberrations of the visual system. Depending upon the aberrations, a corneal or ocular wave front based treatment software is made which is customized for your eye and transferred along with your iris pattern to the AMARIS 750S laser which performs the correction with ultra precision and safety.

Minimum Treatment Time

The SCHWIND AMARIS works three to four times faster than other systems. 750 tiny light flashes per second shape the corneal surface, removing a dioptre in less than 1.5 seconds. Eight dioptres are ablated within 12 seconds.

Automatic Energy Adjustment


In order to perfectly combine speed and precision, the SCHWIND AMARIS is equipped – besides a 750 Hz pulse frequency – with two energy levels. At first, the SCHWIND AMARIS uses a high energy level and rapidly ablates around 80 percent of the tissue to be removed – like a fast yacht quickly heading for the safe harbour. How long the powerful beams are applied depends on your individual refractive error. Like a small sport boat then exactly navigates to a narrow landing, a gentler beam ablates the remaining 20 percent, thus assuring an especially smooth surface and perfect vision.

EyeTracking in six Dimensions


The eyes can involuntarily move in all directions for milliseconds while fixating on the laser light. The SCHWIND AMARIS registers all those movements with a five Dimensional eye tracking system – the only one existing worldwide.

Imagine your eyeball being a buoy in the sea: When the sea is calm, the buoy shifts from the left to the right or forward and backward. Those are the two dimensions also detected by other devices. In swell, however, the buoy tilts to the side. Furthermore, a buoy also turns around its anchorage. In the same manner, your eyeball can roll (rotation) or rotate around its own axis (cyclotorsion).

The SCHWIND AMARIS detects rotations as well as cyclotorsion. It compensates turning movements along the visual axis: Statically, between sitting and lying position and dynamically during the laser treatment.

Nline Pachymetry


Similar to a diver orientating himself in water with his depth gauge, your doctor is Permanently informed through the online pachymetry of the SCHWIND AMARIS. This system measures the changes of corneal thickness in real time and displays them on the opera-tion screen. Thus, your doctor knows at every point in time how much tissue he has already ablated and how thick the remaining cornea still is.

Clinical Results


98 percent of treated eyes achieved 100 percent vision or better 55.5 percent could see even better after the surgical procedure than before with glasses or contact lenses. The study showed that the SCHWIND AMARIS improves perception of black-white contrast. Only some years ago reduced contrast sensitivity was the rule.
